Time is on my side...

Unlike Mick, I do not feel the same. After one week of Spring Break, it is clear that time is not ever-expanding. What did I accomplish? Lots of reading, grading, and housework... but not enough. Naps. Playtime with Jack. I feel more relaxed... but still behind, behind, behind.

Also, given the nasty bug I got the week before break, I found myself focusing on eating well, sleeping regularly, and enjoying the early spring sunshine. I am still eating too much, and too much sugar, and not working it off.

New resolution: walk to work on days when I don't bike. Problem: being prepared by 8 am to walk in. Yeah, I am usually not ready by 8 am--far from it! Driving the short distance--under 10 minutes, even given school-time 20 mph speeds--is so simple, so quick, I am spoiled.

New resolution: cut out the sugar (again). A constant battle, given the amount of sugar in processed foods in America and my own limited sweet tooth. I don't drink soda (except for the monthly Coke) and limit in-house treats to dark chocolate bars. The Paris diet, a low-fat, high-protein, complex-carbo regimen, was very successful for me on sabbatical. Doesn't that make sense, though? Increased dairy, the complex digestion of proteins and low-fat/complex fruits and vegetables reduces sugar cravings, or in my case, bad carbo cravings for things like fries and doughnuts and cinnamon buns.

The combination of more exercise and less sugar should have a drastic effect on my energy levels, physically and mentally. Let's see how this works for the next month.

Out Sick

Fot the last 3 days I have been home, ill with something like strep: sore throat, lost voice, fever, ickiness. Long sick for me. Aaaaaaaand... bored out of my mind. Netflix, reading, sleeping, email... not much else.
Ugh.
