Happy Birthday, Aquarius!

Well, okay, me, but not today. And Aquarius starts on January 20 (in the era before someone reorganized the star signs... I'm to old to adapt).

But next week is my birthday, so happy birthday to me, Aquarius.

Aquarius is an air sign, despite being the sign of the Water Bearer. We are wedged in between the water sign of Pisces (after us) and the earth sign of Capricorn (before use). Aquarius is the 11th sign in the zodiac, a fixed sign (meaning either stable, persistent, and powerful or inflexible, stubborn, and single-minded, you choose), a masculine sign (positive, dominant, and active), and as an air sign, interested in knowledge, communication, curious and rational (or stuck in our heads, unemotional, detached, and coldly objective, again you choose). We are generally not violent, although we have tempers (more so than our sister air signs, Libra and Gemini). We are the sign of friendship, and find much solace and reward in that relationship among all others.

Aquarians tend to be humanists, compatible with most others, and people who think outside the box. Sometimes this is considered the sign of the genius/madman sign more than any other, and we do have our fair share of wackos, prodigies, and unique individuals.

Famous Aquarians include Oprah Winfrey, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, Charles Dickens, Mozart, Federico Fellini, Christian Dior, Lord Byron, Edouard Manet, John Belushi, Virginia Woolf, Lewis Carroll, Colette, Susan Sontag, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Charles Lindburgh, Gertrude Stein, Alice Cooper, Hank Aaron, Garth Brooks, Jules Verne, James Dean, Gypsy Rose Lee, Carol King, Rabelais, Mark Spitz, Abraham Lincolm, John L. Lewis, Charles Darwin, Bess Truman, Jimmy Hoffa, Carl Bernstein, Ramakrishna, Charles W. Schwab, Andre Segovia, Yoko Ono, Merle Oberon, John Travolta, Justin Timberlake, and Germaine Greer, among others.

A motley crew of characters, n'est-ce pas?

  1. I think you are in good company--Germaine Greer and Susan Sontag! Another air sign here, Gemini. Happy birthday, next week.
